TIPS

USING YOUR BLUETOOTH CAPABLE SONY CELL PHONE TO CONTROL CUBASE SX.

(Click here to control ProTools from your phone)

Links

System Requirements:

  • A SonyEricsson Z1010, K700, T610, T616, Z600, T630 or T68i and probably other bluetooth enabled SonyEricsson cell phones.

  • A Bluetooth adapter for your computer

Instructions:

  • Download and install the PcControl software.

  • Replace the KeyMap.xml file located in the installation folder with mine.

  • Copy the file Sony_Bluetooth_Controller.xml into the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\(*your windows user account*)\Application Data\Steinberg\Cubase SX 2\Presets\KeyCommands

  • Launch Cubase and go to File > Key Commands and under "Presets", choose "Sony Bluetooth Controller".

  • Launch PcControl, then right-click on the system tray icon and choose Phone settings > Auto-Connect.

  • On the phone, a PcControl menu will pop up.  Select "Move Mouse" (don't ask me why it says move mouse).

  • The phone will have a screen that says "Windows", which is the keymap for some Windows commands, so hit the # button on the cell phone to change the keymap to "Cubase".

  • Cubase must be in window/mouse focus.

From here you can use the program with Cubase.  Because many of the default key commands are on the numeric keyboard, which cannot be used by PcControl, I had to create a new key command preset for Cubase.  Its easy to switch back and forth.  You can do recording using your phone with the Sony Bluetooth Controller key command preset, then when you're ready to begin editing and mixing, just change the preset back to default, or your own if you have one.

Hit the * button on the phone to bring up the list below.
